Re: Learning efficiently vs. learning quickly

It isn't about how much you can learn in a day and forget by week's end - it's how much you can retain after a year, two years, etc. I could easily learn 50 words in a day (or more) - however without cause to use them in daily life, what would be the point? It's better to learn a few words that can...

Re: What got you interested in the Thai language?

Isn't it something like 85% of Thais can't speak English? That means you're severely restricted in this culture. I think the benefits are quite clear, but it isn't easy. Takes time and commitment, no doubt. And most don't have one, or the other, or both, and hence why you see very few foreigners end...

Re: Learning more than one language at once?

From my experience and the experience of others, it is very possible. When I was in high school, I studied French and taught myself German. During university, I majored in German and studied French, Latin, and Biblical Greek (sadly, not much of the Greek has stuck with me). Now, I'm studying severa...

Re: What got you interested in the Thai language?

Other than liking languages and it being polite to learn the language of the country one plans to live in - it's incredibly annoying to be illiterate and at the mercy of other people. Communication goes much more smoothly. How anyone could live here for several years and not want to learn the langu...

Re: If not Thai, what language?

Aside from Thai, I'm concentrating on Tagalog. I'm also slowly pacing myself through Lao,Mandarin, Burmese, and Norwegian. If I wasn't doing those....I'd probably be studying Arabic or Swahili. I've heard tagalog is quite easy to pickup for English speakers, and from experience in the Philippines I...

Re: The easiest way to learn Thai in the world! Really?

Hi Gary, welcome. Where are you from? I've never come across the site, I guess in part because I picked up reading and writing quite early on and wasn't focusing my studies around it. I just watched the 10 minute video and it is excellent. I'll definitely pass it along to people when they ask me whe...

Re: Hi, I'm Tod Daniels

Hi Tod, welcome. What part of Thailand do you live in? As for language schools: lately it seems the gov't is cracking down on people abusing the system. Lots of people enrolling in the schools for a visa, but never attending class. It seems most of Walen is like that. What do you think the gov't wil...
